BWI is a two form entry Church of England primary school with an agreed admission level for each year group of 60 children. We welcome applications from families of all faiths, who wish their children to be educated in a school which offers a religious, educational and pastoral environment.
BWI admits children into Rainbows (the BWI Nursery) when they are approximately 3 1/2 years old, where they attend a three hour session each day (15 hours a week) for approximately 1 year, until they are eligible to enter full-time school (Reception). Please see information below regarding eligibility for 30 hours free Nursery childcare.
Admission to full time education at Reception level is September of the academic year (1st September to the 31st August) in which your child turns five. Applications for admission are made via your Local Authority’s admissions procedure as outlined below.
From 1st September 2013, Admissions to the school other than the Reception September intake (In-Year Admissions) can be made directly through our School or via your Local Authority.
All parents are encouraged to look around the school before submitting their applications. Individual tours conducted by the pupils and the Head Teacher can be arranged by contacting the School Office on 01895 633520.
There is also a Before & After School Club which caters for parents who need to drop their children off earlier or pick them up later than school times. Details can be found in Before and After School on the Parents tab.
We also provide Wrap Around Care for our Nursery pupils (7.40am to 6.00pm available in three sessions according to individual requirements) until they enter school full time.

Admission Appeals 2018-2019
Parents have the right to appeal if their child is not offered a place at Bishop Winnington-Ingram Church of England Primary School.
If you wish to appeal because your child was not allocated a place in Reception for the 2018-2019 school year, you will need to notify the Clerk to the Governing Body, and send in all supporting paperwork, by 16th May 2018. You will then be notified when to attend your appeal hearing.
If any appeals are received after this date, there is no guarantee that the school will hear the appeal before the end of term.
For further information, please see the Appeals Leaflet for Parents.
3. In-Year Admissions:
(i.e. Applications for admission to year groups other than Reception and for Reception outside the normal time table of application). Note: Nursery applications are all handled directly by the school as described above.
From 1st September 2013, you can choose to apply for an In-Year Admission place directly through BWI School or via your Local Authority. Applications made direct to BWI School may be processed more quickly than via your Local Authority.
When applying directly through BWI School, parents/carers will be required to complete an Application Form available on this website or the School Office. Please contact the School Office if you require more information or have any questions.
When applying via your Local Authority, parents/carers will be required to complete a Common Application Form from their Home Local Authority and should nominate Bishop Winnington-Ingram CE Primary School in their choice of schools. Please note that the order in which the schools are named will be taken into account in establishing the school from which the offer of a place will be made.
If you are applying to BWI School on the basis of your faith, you will be required to complete and return a supplementary Clergy Reference Form obtainable either direct from the School Office or from this website so that the Governing Body may confirm your eligibility under our faith criteria.
If a place is available and there is no waiting list for the relevant year group, then BWI School, if you have applied directly, or your Local Authority, will communicate the Governing Body’s offer of a place at BWI to you.
If there are no places available at the time of application, the school will write to you with this information and advise your Local Authority.
If you are not offered a place you may ask BWI School for the reasons why a place has not been offered and you will be informed of how to exercise your right of appeal. You will also be offered the opportunity of being placed on our waiting list for the year group, for which you have applied. This waiting list will be maintained by the Governing Body with the applicants listed in the order of our published Admissions/Oversubscription Criteria and not in the order in which the applications are received. Every year in March, the school will write to every parent/carer with a child on the waiting list asking if they wish that the child’s name should remain on the waiting list. When a place becomes available, the School will inform the parent/carer that an offer is being made on behalf of BWI's Governing body and advise the Local Authority.
