Watoto - Our partner school in Uganda

Sharing our faith around the world

In 2019, Mrs Blake and her family were fortunate enough to travel to Uganda where they worked during the half term with the Charity Watoto. She had the opportunity to teach and learn in the villages created by this organisation. Watoto rescue orphaned and abandoned babies and children and give them the love of a family, an education and the opportunity to travel the world through the choir. BWI now work in partnership with Watoto where we learn about their culture and Church through video and letter writing. The children in school have listened to their Christmas album and dances that they have shared with us. We hope that one day soon the choir will be able to join us here in the UK.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child or finding out more about the charity you will find the information here

Our year 4 children delivered an assembly to the whole school about Uganda and Watoto and the plans that they have to make and share videos with each other!

Our year 4 class made this for the children in Watoto schools to show them what life is like in an English school.

Following on from the completed staff questionnaire, we arranged a live lesson for the teachers at Watoto with our year 3 class. It was an amazing experience for all involved and Mrs Evans was then able to talk through how she had differentiated the learning for the children in the class which was one of the outcomes recognised for development in the questionnaire.

In October, we had our first meeting with the Watoto school leaders to discuss how we can help support their teachers through training and development. Next step is to create a questionnaire for all their staff about what they need and look at their resources and planning.

We had a lovely visit from Florence, Headteacher of the Watoto Schools, who brought with her lots of artwork and beautiful maps the children at Watoto had made for us!

Upcoming plans

We are looking to follow up on our live lesson and see what areas we can work on together next.

Of course, we also need to send some of our own artwork to Uganda to thank them for what they have sent us!
